Just a quick update on my Little Dragon, who is, as of this writing, 1 year, 3 months old.
He can follow simple commands like ‘Close the door’ and ‘Give Mama the book’.
He has a growing vocabulary — even though he cannot say the words yet, whenever I ask him to point out words like ‘flower’, ‘cat’, ‘butterfly’, ‘ball’ in his Little Einsteins open-the-flap book, he can identify them all correctly.
He’s crazy about books!
He can approximate the sounds that an elephant makes…and roars convincingly when asked about the sound of a tiger or a lion. He also roars when asked to make the sound of all other animals :P
He points out the moon in the sky.
He loves Barney, nursery rhymes, and videos with farm animals and wild animals. His current favourites: Barney’s “If All The Raindrops” (he’d say “aah-aah” at the appropriate places), “The Wheels of the Bus” (he’d make wiper swishing motions), and “If You’re Happy And You Know It” (he’d lift one foot using his hand because he can’t stand on one foot just yet, and lift both arms for ‘Hurray!’). Using an Android app called TubeMate, I’ve downloaded and saved his favourite YouTube videos in my smartphone so that he can watch them anytime, even when there’s no internet connection available.
He looooooves taking baths and would cheekily smile at me while shaking his head whenever I’d tell him bathtime’s over.
He still says ‘bbbh’ whenever he wants to nurse or have some formula.
He can’t stay cooped indoors for too long; he’d point at the door to indicate he wants to go out. He’d pick flowers, tear off leaves, watch our pet chickens and geese, pick (unripe) mangoes and passion fruit from his father’s garden.
His siblings love him to bits and he knows it. He’d kiss them and hug them and bully them…but they love him just the same.
I thank God everyday for the love and joy that this Little Dragon brings to our lives.
