Prince Court Medical Centre: The Hospital That Masquerades As A Hotel

Posted by Mimi on 23 May 2010

Welcome to the Prince Court Medical Centre, Malaysia’s internationally-accredited private healthcare facility.

The hospital is located right in the heart of KL’s central business district, just a stone’s throw from major shopping centres (Pavilion and Star Hill), Kraftangan (KL Craft Complex), and several embassies (US, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Switzerland).

The moment you walk into its ginormous lobby, it’s inevitable to get confused. For a moment, you’ll find yourself thinking you’ve just stepped into a hotel instead of a hospital.

PrinceCourt_reception

Goodness gracious! They even have a concierge right by the entrance of the hotel…uh…I mean, hospital.

The hallways are tastefully decorated with lighting fixtures and small paintings. You start to wonder if you’ve come to the right place to visit your sick friend.

You start to feel better when you see something that resembles a hospital, at long last. Most hospitals that I’ve seen in KL don’t have wall-to-wall carpeting in the hallways though…

Et naturellement, the hospital bed is state-of-the-art. I’m sure you noticed there’s yet another painting on the wall, recessed lighting, a built-in wardrobe, and more wall-to-wall carpeting.

If you’re lucky, you just might get a room with a view of the world’s tallest twin towers:

Luxury comes at a price, of course. And since I’m the type who needs to know how much everything costs, Prince Court is probably not the hospital for me ;)

I like the last shot, Mimi. Surely only those who can afford can enjoy its facilities.

  2. Alice

    Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Though I had a friend who admitted there, I missed the chance of visiting famous Hotel-Hospital.

My friend chose to give birth in Prince Court hospital end of last year. She said the service was impeccable (off course, the bill says it all), and she had in-room menu to choose from everyday for her breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bill for normal labour in the hospital is equivalent to c-section in other well-known hospitals i.e. Pantai, Sunway Medical, Damansara Specialist in Klang Valley.

  3. BlogusVox

Oo nga ano. If you look at the facade and the lobby, you’ll think you’re entering a hotel. It’s a new approach, kasi their are patients who doesn’t like the “somber look” of hospitals.

  4. witsandnuts

It’s so grand! I don’t think it has a counterpart in the UAE. Most of the hospitals here have the traditional arabic design.

  5. Mimi

Avril: I loved the view, as well.

Alice: You’re right — normal delivery in Prince Court is around RM4k; other private hospitals from RM2k.

Blogusvox: For some people, comfort comes first no matter at what price. For simple folks like us, there’s a limit to what we’re willing to pay :)

WitsAndNuts: I haven’t seen any hospitals in UAE. I suppose there are also many Filipinos there?

  6. witsandnuts

The hospitals here sometimes look like government offices. You will find Filipina nurses there.

  7. apple

actually, it is not as expensive as all of u guys think.. well, ofc not if you’re comparing with all of the private hospital in Malaysia la.. it is just in the same range like other hospitals, and might as well be cheaper since the room included fridge and free wi-fi…the sofa bed cost about RM60-RM80 and toiletries is RM30 and it’s bottomless!

  8. magister

Frankly, the mealy mouthedness of the comments say it all. I have been treated there and so have friends and colleagues. It does what it says it will do – offer superlative quality and treatment efficiently and easily…is that so bad? Yes it has a price but EVERYTHING does. It is a great addition to KL and Malaysia..stop the carping be proud of it!

  9. Mimi

apple: the sofa bed is RM60-80. PER night.

  10. Mimi

magister: it’s a world-class medical facility, for sure. good for medical tourism. for tourists, it’s excellent service at a reasonable rate (after they convert to their own currency).

  11. Dr Junaidi Ismail

Hi everyone! I’d like to clear the air about some of the mis-perceptions…

Some comments were very well justified by saying that we cannot compare Prince Court’s pricing with ALL the private hospitals in Klang Valley. It wouldn’t be an apple to apple comparison, unless you compare to the likes of Gleneagles, Pantai Bangsar or Sime Darby Medical Centre…

Once you do that, let’s look at some basic charges…

    1. Single room rates: Prince Court offers this at only RM 200. Check out the others

    2. Pharmaceutical and Lab charges: The same

    3. Radiology charges: The same

Now some of you may not be convinced and say “Haiya!!! But the doctors charge a lot more maaah!!”

Let me now drop the bomb… Private doctors in Malaysia have to adhere to the fee schedule stipulated in the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998, which practically outlaws any charging above and beyond that stipulated in the Act.

What this means is that no matter which private hospital you go to, the doctors WILL have to charge the same!!! Now, isn’t that NICE??

Of course, if you compare Prince Court to, say, Kampung Baru Medical Centre, the price would seem inflated… But then again, can you say that a Mercedes Benz is overpriced because it is more costly than a Proton Saga??

    Cheers!!

  12. Mimi

Dr Junaidi: If only everyone left comments like you do. Thank you so much for the clarification! :)

  13. lady dragon

i wonder why our insurance provider has yet to put prince court in the list. i wanted to send my son there for admission on friday 2nd october 2010.

now my son is admitted to gleneagles intan medical centre single executive room. room rate for single executive here is rm330 (we need refrigerator, as single room not available). now the insurer has to fork out more instead to make savings for their year end bonus!

  14. Dr. Junaidi Ismail

    Mimi: Thanks for your comments.

Lady Dragon: Your guess is as good as mine about the insurers, but essentially, the reason why they have not listed PCMC in their panel list is because of the same misperceptions that everyone else has… That PCMC is expensive….

Here as PCMC, we are doing all we can to convince them that PCMC IS NOT ANY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OUR NEIGHBOURS!! It is an uphill battle, especially when everyone else is echoing and repeating the same.

That’s where it’ll be good if those who read this message stop perpetuating the myth about PCMC, and perhaps, be open minded and start comparing some hard facts (and prices)…

Anyway, to those who wish to contact me, please feel free to do so… I can be reached at junaidi.ismail@princecourt.com

  15. Lunar As

All private hospitals should just put a price list on their website just like Parkway does.. Easier for patient to choose the best and avoid unnecessary charges from private hospital..

  16. Donna

We’re so excited our very 1st grandchild will be born in your beautiful hospital very soon! We’re leaving California in 2 wks.&can hardly wait! Your medical centre is so awesome, I almost wish I could have cosmetic surgery while our daughter is resting after her delivery. I better be ready to help with Baby though. Thank you for the beautiful photos!

  17. Dr Junaidi Ismail

Hi I just discovered I’m pregnant and a lot of my friends have suggested that I try pcmm. With my first child I gave birth at ampang puteri but had a bad experience with one of the paeds.

Hence I’d like to try out pcmm. Someone suggested dr. Sri so my question is does anyone know how much she charges for a normal monthly check up and scans? And how much for normal n c sect deliveries if I choose a single room. Thank u

  19. Maria K Todd, MHA PhD

    @ Lana
You should know that by law, all Malaysian private hospitals charge essentially the same thing. Whether you go to one private hospital or another, the fee schedule is mandated by regulation.

PCMM is a beautiful hospital, quiet, graceful and elegant. Check it out. You’ll feel like a princess.

  20. nina

hi every one. I just want to ask if the prince c0urt medical center accept filipin0 nurses who are fresh graduate and a b0ard passer?thank you so much.your answers are highly appreciated:)

  21. farah

hi there! yes, i’ve to agree that this medical centre is great at most of the aspects (the room, nurse services, cleanliness, friendliness of the staff, facilities,KLCC view n etc.) but one thing that they yet to improve is the admission n discharge service. to tell u i’ve already being admitted here for four times (my son 3 times and me 1 time). everything was so great except for the admission n discharge service AND the food at the galleria cafe is too pricely. the admission took me 2 hours on average and the discharge process took me about 3 hours on average. i’ve made complaints on the feedback form everytime i checked out but seems like there is no action taken. i assumed that there are valid n proper reasons for all this. bTw, in overall i enjoyed staying there n could not forget the friendliness of the staff and also the specialist and peads who treated me n my son there. TQ PCMC.

  22. feli

i want to ask about the medical package for ladies 18 years old, woman 53 years old and how much the prices? thanks

  23. Karina

Who is the “best” plastic surgeon that specialises in face-lifts?
    Your hospital is amazing :-)

  24. wacko

Being a person who used to be in & out of major private hospitals in the city for recent years, I would say Prince Court is second to none in term of service delivery. As a patient who is covered by a medical card under employee’s benefit scheme, longer waiting time for discharge procedures is a norm. Anyone would expect an average of 3 hours once a visiting doctor gives a nod to go home. But here at Prince Court, I am amazed to find myself got discharged in abt 30 minutes after a visiting doctor released me to go. This speaks a lot of the high standard of efficiency and speedy delivery of Prince Court Medical Center. Again I would say their service is second to none at least among private medical center in Malaysia.

  25. Lin Che Mat

    Hi All,

Just to clear the issue that no insurer has listed Prince Court as panel hospital. The truth is, Prince Court is one of the many panel hospitals for Prudential BSN Takaful. :)

Check out my blog if you would like to know more!

  26. Angie

How much is the fee for delivery in PCMC? Both CSect and Normal. Is it expensive?

  27. Kristine Leyes

hello! i’m currently a nicu nurse from philippines, i wish to work in PCMC, is there anyone here who happens to know any agency where i can apply?

  28. Joey Florendo

Proud of my colleague JUN S. He was part of the planning and execution of PCMC. Wish that i would make one as well.

  29. Joey Florendo

Surprised that St Luke the Fort is even expensive than PCMC…

  30. Joey Florendo

    kristine..

I know a hospital that needs NICU nurses. Hope I can refer you.
