Fisheye Effect With My D90

Posted by Mimi on 19 August 2009

As every owner of a DSLR camera knows, after you finally get the camera body that you’ve been saving up for, you tend to want to buy more lenses (even though you know you have other more pressing priorities like business insurance or new tyres). Nikonians have even coined up a term for this: NAS or Nikkor Acquisition Syndrome, Nikkor being Nikon’s brand name for its line of lenses.

I, for one, have been eyeing the Nikkor fisheye lens. It’s not really something I need but more like something that can make photos more fun. Unfortunately, the tag price — RM3,188 (about USD910) — left me gasping for air like a fish does when it’s out of water. So I just had to forget about it.

You can just imagine my delight when I found out that the Nikon D90 gives the option of creating a fisheye effect through its on-camera editing options.

Here’s the original SOOC (straight-out-of-camera) photo:-

And here’s the same photo after I applied the fisheye effect on it:-

Groovy, eh? It’s the next best thing to actually having a fisheye lens. If you’ve been following my blog, you know it doesn’t take that much to make me happy ;)

oh my! nikon has a feature like that? i wonder if canon does. i also don’t have the “luxury” of buying a lens that expensive! i’ll have to go back to the camera’s manual.

Ummmm, my hubby is eyeing for a bag…and it’s mahal na for me ha, 6k is… for just a bag…and a lens daw soon! Gosh! matapos kaming magpagod ng paa sa kakahanap ng cargo pants niya kahapon, hindi kami nakabili dahil wala siyang nagugustuhan, tapos bigla niya sasabihin sa akin he’s saving up na lang for a bag. whew!

kg: my previous camera, a D40, didn’t have it. but the D90 does ;)

sheng: yes, camera bags are not cheap. but think of it this way: if you skimp on the bag and it ends up being of inferior quality, it might not protect properly the more expensive gear that’s inside it!

    Nice! D90 rocks!

KG, I’m a Canon baby, too. If you’d like to have the fish eye and other effects, possible though through editing software/online edits. =)

Cool! Makes me want one of those cameras, but they’re waaaay out of my gadget budget :)

Oh, fisheye really makes a lot of difference!!!

  7. Garando

Cool feature! If I had a fisheye lens, I’d take closeup shots of Garandee.

Sinta: Cheaper models have just been released — they cost about the same as one small Coach bag ;)

Garando: Why?? It would make her look..well…round (^_^)

thks for mentioning that, steph! ya, it’s one of the features i like about D90. and it’s so easy to use, too – just click LV, then OK. maybe i’ll post a short video of boiling volcanic water next time ;)

Yeah. I have a D90 n I’m a newbie photographer. The fisheye lense effects on the editing menus is just soo incredible. I do not have to waste my money in a big amount (RM 3 100 sometihng. wow. With that big amount of money, i can buy 1 nikon D90 body only) lol. well, im proud to have d90 ^^

yup, nikon rocks! you got the body only or bought it with the kit lens?
