I have a confession to make — I’m a serious perpetrator of drive-by shooting. By that, I mean taking pics from a moving vehicle.

It all started when I just purchased my D40. My first test pictures made my noob jaw drop.

KL drive-by shooting

I knew DSLRs are fast. But I had no idea they can be this fast. So sharp, despite the speed of the moving car…

KL drive-by shooting

Such beautiful colours, thanks to the car window’s V-Kool coating, which somehow ended up as some sort of filter…

(Let’s just forget about the Rule of Thirds and other composition rules for now, okay? They’re taken from a moving vehicle afterall.)

Remember this photo? Sure, it’s kinda grainy. But the colours are fantastic. I got lucky with the composition. And my hands were steady enough to take the shot.

Drive-by shooting. It’s fun. It’s safe (as long as you’re not the one driving). And the results can be pretty astounding. Try it today!

  1. i consider it a luxury to be able to take photos as a passenger in a moving vehicle.

those look clear for something taken while in motion!

by the way, our mail carrier was the one with problems, not your sending it as registered mail. she made a big deal out of it. :P

  2. Naku naman! Akala ko KL is now envaded by gangs and gang related incidents.

But I like your take, Mimi. Pang “postcard”!

  3. Awesome pictures as always, I have not tried my hand on our DSLR yet, the hubby wants me to try my hand at it, yet time if of the limit, maybe soon.

  4. dSLR rocks! I’m loving it. =)

  5. You take beautiful photos. Even with a DSLR, I can’t produce good pictures, LOL!

  6. Beautiful shots, Mimi.

  7. woot! mimi, i thought the first was a computer-generated commercial drawing ;-) galing! ang precise!

  9. faery: oh good. yr twitter updates re: yr mail carrier really had me worried.

sheng: just give it a try. put it on AUTO mode, flash off. then take pics early in the morning or late in the afternoon. and pick a stationary object, for starters :)

    witsandnuts: no turning back! :D

josiet: it takes a bit of practice. i took a good number of shots involving shoes, toys, leaves, flowers, etc and a lot of trial and error to see what angles look better.

    avril: thanks!

caryn: coming from an architect, i take that as a HUGE compliment! domo arigato :)

francesca: mag-malaysia airlines ka nga on your next trip so that you get a free stopover dito sa malaysia.

  10. congratulations on the d90! *drool*
the pictures are beautiful, i love the clouds and the blue sky. and yes, that picture of the towers in the dusk would always be one of my favorites.

  11. oh i took this with my D40 in 2007, even before i started blogging. that’s why i forgot about these pics :) these days, i don’t just see photo opportunities — i also see blog ideas haha!

  12. Great photos. It’s amazing what you can take out of a car window – but keep those windows clean! Sometimes I have to spend so much time on photoshop getting out all the spots that were on the windshield. I love the filtering effect from the tinted windows.
