…when boxes and boxes and boxes of Mandarin oranges arrive almost daily — sometimes, twice daily — into the office.

It’s customary to give tangerines and oranges during Chinese New Year to friends, relatives and business associates because the words for tangerine and orange sound like luck and wealth, respectively. Oranges are also given to express respects and good wishes for the coming year.

i like the miniature statue in the middle. is that supposed to be a young Buddha. it’s similar in hawaii, people there stock up on oranges too.

we are not chinese but we celebrate the chinese new year when we were still in the philippines. you know how it’s a big thing over there. we’ll be buying loads of oranges, too, in time for the big day. and maybe wear something red as well. :)
