Pak Arie,

Thanks for the correction. I've amended the post accordingly :)

It would be good if you can have an English version of your blog.

I noticed the photo in your header is that of Mt. Bromo. I'll also be posting something about Mt. Bromo soon. The trip was June 2007 but I never got around to editing it for my blog yet.

[...This statue is said to have been erected as part of the preparation for the 4th ASEAN Games in 1962...]

Dear Mrs Mimi,
pls check again your information on Patung Selamat Datang, It should be "the 4th ASIAN games" because, ASEAN is the Association of South East Asian Nations and was formed on 8 August 1967, thus 5 year after the statue had been erected. so, the statue was build to welcome the participants of the 4th ASIAN games (the first international event in Indonesia after the independence) and the GANEFO, The Games of the New Emerging Forces (GANEFO) were games were set up by Indonesia (Soekarno) in late 1962 as a counter to the Olympic Games. Established for the athletes of the so-called "emerging nations" (mainly newly independent socialist states), GANEFO made it clear in its constitution that politics and sport were intertwined; this ran against the doctrine of the International Olympic Committee, which strove to separate politics from sport. The IOC decreed that athletes attending GANEFO would be ineligible to participate in the Olympic Games.

thx,
you always welcome to visit my site, (in the future i'll write the articles in english and dutch) and pls enjoy the pictures of my beautiful indonesia @
